Contact Me E-mail me at: Mike@welchsong.com Michael Welch Bio asd Michael Welch is a native and resident of Indianapolis’s eastside. Since 1994, Michael and his family have called the historic eastside neighborhood of Irvington their home. Michael has been active in Irvington and even co-chaired the Irvington Halloween Festival for two years. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Irvington Community School. A graduate of North Central H.S. and Ball State, Michael has had careers in electrical installation, graphic arts, national and local sales, and industrial automation. In 2002 Michael co-formed EISgroup, Inc., an automation engineering and information solutions firm, with offices in Irvington and St. Louis Mo. The genres of influence for Michael are primarily pop-rock from the 60’s and 70’s. The Beatles, ELO, Eagles and Steely Dan playing major parts. Michael loves the blues as well and feels that his spinal cord resonates with standard 12-bar blues or a shuffle innately, saying, “If you don’t at least tap your toes to that, you’ve got no soul!” He is drawn to lyrics, but not for the typical reasons. Michael is fascinated with the rhythm of the words selected in a line, regardless of their meaning. He finds that sometimes there is just a “perfect” phrase or a line that just “rolls off the tongue” that fits the mood, subject and tone of the song…well…perfectly. Examples of this would be: Michael is a self taught guitarist and has played off-and-on since 1980. However, not until 2003 did his musical interests cross his spiritual path. That was when Michael and his family started attending Community Christian Fellowship (which has since moved into Irvington!). After having impromptu jam sessions with the church’s musical director, David Mottinger, (also a CICSA songwriter) he was asked to be part of one of the worship teams. Grudgingly he accepted, but has found it to be a joy to serve the body this way. Early in his songwriting journey, Michael has much to explore. He tends to go into the “challenge the body” direction with his works. To his own admission, he is no great virtuoso on the guitar, but he believes that music is beyond pure musical skill. He sees music as a mystery and gift to mankind from God that anyone can “tap into”. “For some reason God loves music and it makes Him happy. He has given that same joy to each of us to discover and give back the best we can”, says Welch. “I tried to justify playing and creating as a self-ministry, and couldn’t do it. God wants me to share what he has given me. If I play 100 venues and just connect one line with one person, then I am accomplishing God’s will for me. Who can dispute that?” Michael and his wife Jill were married in 1985 and have two sons born in 1996 and 2003. He loves sailing and woodworking. To date Michael has not published any CD’s, nor are there any plans at this time to do so.
